Overview
The 2-day Zagora desert tour from Marrakech is ideal for travelers with limited time who still want a desert experience. While the dunes are smaller than Merzouga, the route offers a strong introduction to southern Morocco, including the High Atlas Mountains, Ait Ben Haddou, the Draa Valley, and a night in a desert camp.
Because the itinerary is compact, it works well as a weekend trip or as part of a longer Morocco vacation. It allows you to leave Marrakech, spend a night in a quieter landscape, and return with a real sense of distance from the city.
This tour is best for visitors who want the atmosphere of camel trekking and desert camp accommodation without committing to a longer Sahara circuit.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech - High Atlas - Ait Ben Haddou - Zagora
Leave Marrakech in the morning and cross the High Atlas via Tizi n'Tichka. The route offers mountain panoramas, roadside villages, and several photo stops. Visit Ait Ben Haddou before continuing south past Ouarzazate and into the Draa Valley, one of the longest river valleys in Morocco.
By late afternoon you arrive in the Zagora area, where the terrain becomes increasingly arid and open. Enjoy a camel ride at sunset before reaching camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 2: Zagora - Draa Valley - Ouarzazate - Marrakech
After sunrise and breakfast, return from camp and begin the journey back to Marrakech. The drive retraces the Draa Valley and allows for short breaks in Ouarzazate or along the mountain road, depending on timing. Arrival in Marrakech is typically in the late afternoon or evening.
Although it is a short trip, it offers good value for travelers who want mountain, kasbah, and desert scenery in only two days.

Practical Tips
- Best season: Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the most comfortable temperatures; summer is very hot, winter nights are cold in the desert
- What to wear: Light, breathable clothing during the day and a warm layer for desert evenings; closed shoes for camel rides and sand walking
- Sun protection: Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat are essential — the Sahara sun is intense even in cooler months
- Money: Carry Moroccan dirhams (MAD) for tips, snacks, and small purchases; ATMs are scarce beyond main towns
- Connectivity: Mobile coverage is limited in remote desert areas — download offline maps and save key contacts before departure
- Camp comfort: Standard camps include blankets; a thin sleeping bag liner adds comfort in colder months, and earplugs help if you are a light sleeper
FAQ
Is Zagora the real Sahara?
Zagora offers a desert atmosphere and camp experience, but the giant dunes of Erg Chebbi are in Merzouga. Zagora is better for short trips.
Is the camel ride long?
It is usually a short scenic ride timed for sunset and the transfer to camp.
Is this tour worth it if I only have two days?
Yes. It is one of the best ways to experience southern Morocco when your schedule is tight.
What should I wear?
Comfortable travel clothes, sun protection, and a light jacket for the evening are recommended year-round.
Is the desert tour suitable for children?
Yes. Children generally enjoy camel rides and the camp atmosphere. Let us know ages when booking so we can plan accordingly and suggest the most family-friendly camp options.
What currency should I use?
Moroccan dirhams (MAD) are used throughout. Exchange money in Marrakech, Fes, or another main city before departure — rural areas and desert towns have very limited banking facilities.
What is the cancellation policy?
We ask for 48 hours' notice for changes or cancellations. For last-minute requests or emergencies, please contact us directly via WhatsApp and we will do our best to accommodate you.
